The Plan identifies and assesses all foreseeable risks which communities in the West
Midlands might face – from house fires and road traffic collisions, through to flooding
and terrorism. That information is then used to shape WMFS priorities and their
Service Delivery Model – how they use the resources they have to reduce risk and
vulnerability in local communities.
WMFS strategic planning looks ahead three years and factors in the views and needs
of local communities, their staff and the many other organisations and partners with
which they work. All fire and rescue services have a duty to do this, under the Fire and
Rescue National Framework.
In addition to responding to 999 calls and emergencies, WMFS prevention and
protection activities are also key to making local communities safer, whether that’s at
home, on the roads or in buildings where people work, live or visit.
