SOLIHULL MIU Update:

A report before next week’s Joint Scrutiny Board meeting, Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Board – includes an Update on access to Primary Care and the Reprovision of Services at Solihull Hospital .

This is good news and confirms the reinstatement of a Minor Injuries Unit at Solihull Hospital. Below are some of the comments I have taken from the main report (which is posted further down).

‘The preferred option, of UHB and the ICB, is to re-provide an MIU on the Solihull
Hospital site, in line with the national service specification. It is proposed that the
reprovided MIU will be situated where the current pre-operative assessment area is’

‘The MIU would be led by emergency nurse practitioners, supported by other clinical and
non-clinical support staff.’

We now have an opportunity, with your support, to reinstate a MIU on the Solihull Hospital
site to reprovide a quality service for the people of Solihull and the surrounding area’

There is a communications engagements plan that will commence shortly (I will post this when it begins). It will be important for all Solihull residents to have their say as to what type of service we want. For me, this is a starter for ten – I will be looking for the reinstatement of an Accident and Emergency Department in the coming years. With another 15,000 new homes to be built in the borough by 2036 the demand for a functioning A&E will be very clear.
