Dept of Environment and Rural Affairs: Local authority collected waste management – annual results 2022/23 – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
All regions had decreases in their recycling rates, except London (no change).
Solihull however saw the proportion of household waste sent for recycling increased last year:
- The authority with an increase of over 5 percentage points in their recycling rate was Solihull MBC (West Midlands region) which had a 6.3 percentage point increase to give a recycling rate of 41.5%.
Household waste per head in Solihull has fallen from 420.3 kg per head to 405.8 kg per head.
Other key messages:
Solihull is one of a few local authorities that remains committed to weekly household waste collections.
Solihull has free garden waste collections all year round (apart from Christmas/New Year).
All household waste collections are diverted to our Coventry & Solihull Waste Disposal Company (which turns all our household waste (black bin) into energy (heat and electric power). This realises a dividend for the borough. You can find out more about this facility by visiting their website: https://www.cswdc.co.uk/
All dry recycling (Brown bin) is sent to the new state if the art Mixed Recycling Centre which we own together with Warwickshire Districts, Coventry, Walsall and Lichfield council. Together we are changing the face of waste management: https://sherbournerecycling.co.uk/
