BLYTHE WARD – July Report

We wish to restart a monthly report, something I did a few years ago, but many issues, especially Covid got in the way. But now the local and general elections are out of the way we can now reignite things.

Keith Green made a quick start to his tenure as Blythe ward Councillor when we tackled the contamination of the stream leading to the lake at Hillfield Local Nature Reserve. This was well publicised, by our own social media and Birmingham Mail. Thankfully no lasting damage was done and recently we saw many hundreds of sticklebacks in the stream. Duckling and goslings have also thrived.

Travellers moved onto the park late in June. Police acted quickly to stop further vehicles joining and council officers sought an court order. I am pleased to say we saw less debris than visits a few years ago and travellers were evicted within 72 hours.

One of the main issues we have in our in-tray include Housing developments. We already have a few large housing applications and one more for Dog Kennel Lane is expected in a few weeks time. Some we can tolerate (as long as the infrastructure requirements are met) whilst others we object to. We will dedicate further messages to each development site in due course.

The council has, like many local authorities, budget pressures and officers are working through these.

Reporting problems: the best way to report any problem is via the council website ‘Report a Problem’ page: Report it | solihull.gov.uk . Here you can report issues such as overhanging trees and bushes as well as pot holes.

We wish to continue making regular contact with residents and use a variety of methods, certainly social media. Both Ken and Keith use Facebook for local issues and are on local Facebook groups. You can also find both on X via @Blthematters and @kfgreen1960 .
