SHERBOURNE RECYCLING IS ONE YEAR OLD

‘An incredibly flexible, highly efficient, and technologically advanced solution to waste management’

Sherbourne Recycling Ltd is a joint partnership of eight local authorities across the West Midlands that is changing the face of recycling waste management. The company was founded in 2021 and tasked with designing, facilitating the development of, and subsequently operating, a state-of-the-art Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) on behalf of its partners, providing a solution for processing its partner-council’s residential kerbside recycling collections.

Working with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council are, Coventry, Walsall, North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Rugby, Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick District councils. Each holds a share commensurate with the amount of waste sent to the facility.

I reported about this last year when I visited the site shortly after it started taking waste: https://cllrkenhawkins.co.uk/2023/06/07/recycling-a-game-changer/

Overview of the First year:

  • £65m investment
  • Eight partner councils
  • 12,000 sqm purpose-built state of the art facility
  • 47.5 tonnes of waste processed every hour
  • Only 5 manual pickers required
  • UK markets for all recyclates
  • 175,000 tonnes of waste processed per annum
  • 18 sorting robots
  • 1 semi-automated sampling station
  • 14 optical sorters

This investment and state of the art facility is proving to be a game changer in how waste can be recycled for the eight local authorities.
