As I have previously commented and posted, the proposed ward boundary changes will affect Blythe ward and St Alphege wards in that parts of these wards will be merged.
Solihull Council approved the proposed response to the final Local Government Boundary Commission (LGBC) consultation at its meeting yesterday evening (8 October 2024) and the recommendations can be found here:
In brief, Monkspath will be removed from Blythe ward and merge with some of the current St Alphege ward to form St Alphege and Monkspath ward. The communities of the parishes of Cheswick Green, Dickens Heath and Tidbury Green will remain as Blythe ward. Some of the existing St Alphege ward will move to the newly named Sharmans Cross ward, Olton and Silhill wards. Details can be found on the document council agreed as its formal response to the LGBC.
Readers can find out more about the issue and how we have got to this stage via the LGBC dedicated webpage for Solihull: https://www.lgbce.org.uk/all-reviews/solihull
What happens next?
The LGBC will now determine responses and formulate final recommendations which they will present for endorsement by parliament. This is expected to be published on 4 March 2025. Changes will take place at the local elections set for May 2026.
This should not affect how elected councillors should work or operate in the meantime. Councillors have been elected to represent residents in their current wards.
