Catering college proposed for Chelmsley Wood Town Centre

Planning application PL/2024/02970/PPFL relates to an application for a ‘Change of use to catering college’ by University College Birmingham (UCB). This looks like a brilliant opportunity for the area to replace units that have been vacant for a long time.

Decrease levels of unemployment in the area by introducing training and skills
to support local business and skill shortages.

The benefits to the application are shown in the planning statement and includes:

  • Support the local region by developing bespoke programmes of study for related
    stakeholders.
  • Create opportunities for the unemployed.
  • Align the provision to the requirements of the West Midlands Combined
Authority and linked to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council’s (SMBC) skills
    offer in the locality.
  • Inspire young people to choose careers in hospitality

The long term use of the premises within the Shopping Centre could act as a catalyst for attracting other users to the town centre and help provide full and part-time jobs.
