The regeneration of the town centre moves on at pace. The full planning application submitted by the council’s development partners, Muse, can be found on the council’s planning portal and the application is likely to go before planning committee in the next few months. I have provided a link here:
The development will breathe new life into the town centre by introducing a variety of new and enhanced uses, as well as a significant number of new homes, modern retail, commercial units and other amenities.
The first phase of the regeneration will be around the current void House of Fraser block and will require the demolition of the multi-story car park in the new year.
To avoid pressure on car parks in the town centre, the council is bringing forward essential maintenance work to the Poplar Road multi story car park (formerly known as the M&S car park). This will require a three-week closure of this car park, from Monday 22 September until Friday 10 October. There will be press and public notices to remind residents about the works.
