REAL CHRISTMAS TREES – Disposal in Solihull

There are several things you can do with your real Christmas tree once you take them down.

When purchasing your Christmas tree – see if the retailer offers a take-back scheme for your used tree, this service is usually provided by garden centres and tree suppliers If you purchase a tree with roots – why not replant it in a pot in your garden and use it again next year?

With the new Environmental Services Contract you may wish to cut up your real Christmas tree so that they fit in the bin. Tree stumps should be no larger than 3 inches or 7.5cm in diameter.

Don’t forget, garden waste collections restart in mid-January, check your calendar to find your collection start date. Christmas trees can be recycled at Bickenhill Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).

Alternatively, Christmas trees can also be recycled through St Mary’s Hospice for a donation to the Hospice. Find out more here – Treecycling – Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice (birminghamhospice.org.uk).

  1. Hello,I am making enquiries to see if I can arrange for my real Christmas Tree to be collected please.  My home is in the Solihull council area.My address is 4 Birmingham Road, Meriden CP, Solihull, England, CV7 7PEPhone number is 07811111434.The tree is outside the back of my house (where my bins are emptied from).I will pay/contribute the fee.

    1. Hi Heidi-Jayne, the council does not collect real Christmas trees but you could prune it accordingly and place it in your green bin. The garden waste collection stats again from next week (check your collection date). Otherwise, I do know some hospices do collect for a donation. Kind regards, Ken

      1. Hello Ken,

Thank you so much for your reply. If you could pass on the details of the hospices please, and then I can try to arrange a collection.

        Thank you very much,

        Heidi-Jayne,
