SOLIHULL STREET RACING  – PUBLIC SPACE PROTECTION ORDER (PSPO):

This relates to Damson Parkway, Elmdon, and Bickenhill Parkway in Marston Green but I feel this information may be useful for Monkspath residents.

The Council is consulting with residents on a proposed Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to tackle vehicle anti-social behaviour in Solihull neighbourhoods and request feedback on the proposals.

If approved, the proposed PSPO will give the Council the necessary powers to deter unlawful activity, promote responsible use of public highways, and restore confidence among residents that their streets are safe to use and enjoy.

Analysis of police calls for service over a three-year period found that whilst street racing, car cruising, and associated Anti Social Behaviours (ASB) are a problem within Solihull, specific areas are disproportionately affected.

Evidence and Area Selection

Police call data and reports from residents highlight that Damson Parkway, Elmdon, and Bickenhill Parkway in Marston Green are the most affected areas. These locations have experienced:

  • A high volume of calls related to dangerous driving and racing.
  • Frequent large-scale vehicle gatherings.
  • Noise complaints linked to revving engines and loud music.
  • Reports of intimidation and obstruction of public highways.

WHY NOT ONE FOR THE A34/STRATFORD ROAD?

The proposed PSPO will therefore focus on the above areas to ensure restrictions are proportionate and evidence based. We have found the judiciary are not inclined to grant injunctions or repeat injunctions without substantial evidence; the installation of average speed cameras and restrictions on Tesco’s car park have seriously reduced the anti-social impacts we used to incur.

However, the use of the PSPO legislation is extremely useful in constraining those who seek to ruin community’s lives . This legislation does not just relate to ‘car cruising/boy racing’. It affects those who attend to watch, those who cause noise and do stunts and play loud music Please read the document accompanying the consultation for more information.

The survey is open until Sunday 25 January 2026 and can be found here: Solihull Street Racing PSPO | Your Voice Solihull
