Payment for attending a panel you asked to be a member of?
This was my reply when a Coventry Councillor (their Reform Group leader) asked for payment to attend the West Midlands Police and Crime Panel:
“One of the things about the Police and Crime Panel when it was brought in was a change from the old police authority that was burdensome in relation to the taxpayer.
“We all get allowances from our own authorities and we volunteer for this role. We’re here to serve.”
At a time when the ordinary tax payer is getting squeezed we don’t need councillors getting more money for work they volunteered to do.
