A great night last Friday, spent sleeping in a cardboard box in the large car park at the Renewal Centre, Lode Lane in aid of St Basils, who work with young people to prevent homelessness. You can find out more about the excellent work they do via their website: http://www.stbasils.org.uk/
The #SolihullSleepOut is in its third year and saw about 250 of us take part this year. The weather was kind and although there was a chilly breeze we were dry and safe. Each taking part were given a cardboard box and sheet of plastic. It was then left to the imagination of others who wished to make more elaborate dwellings. The winners of the cardboard competition had made a sizeable model of the Millennium Falcon, which seemed to sleep about 15 youngsters. I just made myself comfortable , as can be seen below:
Please note, lack of minibar and trouser press.
St Basils put on a coffee/soup kitchen and some entertainment for the early part then lights went out at midnight. More images of the night are shown in the slideshow at the top of the page.
Please consider donating to St Basils. They do excellent work in the borough and region. Our young people need their help. I seem to have raised £195 (£231.25 with gift aid) and my fund raising page can be found here: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=cllrken
