As promised, another short walk that can be reached from Monkspath. This one uses a public footpath, crosses the M42 motorway and onwards to the river itself. Here children can walk in the shallows, where small fish can be found.
The walk starts off Shelly Crescent, Monkspath, entering the tarmac footpath that runs parallel to Embridge Drive. This leads you along the footpath, between two greens of Widney Manor Golf Club and across the motorway. I have taken a short video of the start:
A word of Caution:
After crossing the motorway you enter Solihull Riding Club land, with the public footpath running through it. If you walk dogs please take care to watch out for horses and put your dog on a lead.
Many people walk round the top of the fieled (as it runs along the raised railway line), then following the river back to the small footbridge over the river and back towards Elmbridge Drive.
The walk is linear but I will post additions to it in the coming days (when it stops raining). A map (below) outlines the route:
